Use the operators. Reddit's search box accepts field operators and Boolean logic that it never advertises in the interface. Reddit Help's "Available search features", updated May 26, 2026, lists them:
The single most useful thing to know is the matching rule. In Reddit Help's words, when searching posts, results only need to include some of your search words unless you use the special syntax. That is the whole reason a three-word search returns posts about one of them. Quotes and title: are how you force all three.
Two more that the interface does show, but badly:
- Search within a subreddit. Open the community first, then search. The results are scoped to it, with a toggle to widen to all of Reddit. The URL form is

You can't, on Reddit. The only time controls are the filters — past hour, day, week, month, year — and there is no after: or before: operator. Google searches for "reddit search by date" have been falling (−47% year on year) as people learn this and stop trying.
The working substitute is Google. Google indexes Reddit thoroughly, and its custom date range applies to any query:

Site-wide, Reddit's comment search by author is unreliable, and it does not return removed or deleted comments at all. What replaced it is a set of smaller projects that come and go, and the search demand follows whichever one is currently up.
Two honest notes. First, these tools hold copies of Reddit content, including content people deleted, which is exactly the thing Reddit has been shutting down — Pushshift's closure was the precedent. Treat any of them as temporary. Second, they are the right answer for a one-off: a deleted thread you need, a user's history, a date-bounded pull. They are the wrong answer for a search you'll run again next week, because you'll be running it by hand every time.
