What this list is, and what it isn’t
There are over a hundred thousand active subreddits. This page ranks the ones in the Prowlo catalog — currently more than 1,200 communities, growing every day as users add Watchers and our discovery pass finds new ones. It is not a complete census of Reddit and we are not going to pretend otherwise, because a ranking is only as good as the freshness of what sits behind it.
What you do get is numbers with a date on them. Every community here is re-crawled on a rolling schedule through a residential-proxy stack, and every ranking states when it was captured. That matters more than it sounds: most “top subreddits” lists on the web are copies of a scrape that stopped running years ago, and several of the tools that produced them broke for good in May 2026 when Reddit started returning 403 to unauthenticated requests.
Largest, most active, fastest growing
Largest sorts by subscriber count. It is the ranking everyone asks for and the least useful one for deciding where to spend your time — subscriptions accumulate forever and never expire, so the number measures history rather than activity.
Most active sorts by posts per day from the latest snapshot. This is the ranking to look at if you are choosing communities to participate in: it tells you where conversation is actually happening, and how fast the front page turns over.
Fastest growing compares each community’s current subscriber count against the nearest snapshot around 30 days back. It needs real history to exist, so it stays gated until we have it rather than extrapolating from a few days of data.
The size filters exist because ranking a 5,000-member community against r/AskReddit is meaningless. Filtering to 10K–100K is where most of the genuinely useful communities for founders and marketers live — big enough that people are reading, small enough that a good answer stays on the page for more than an hour.
Don’t pick your subreddits from a top-N list
This page is useful for orientation and for settling arguments about which community is bigger. It is a bad way to choose where to post. The largest communities are also the most saturated, the most heavily moderated, and the ones where every competitor in your category has already tried the same thing. A comment in a subreddit posting a thousand times a day is visible for minutes.

Across Reddit as a whole, r/funny, r/AskReddit and r/gaming have traded the top spot for years, each with tens of millions of subscribers. The ranking on this page is narrower and more honest about it: it covers the communities in the Prowlo catalog, ordered by the member counts from our own crawl, so the numbers carry a capture date instead of being copied from a years-old scrape.
How many subscribers does r/AskReddit have?
It is one of the handful of default-tier communities in the tens of millions, and we are not going to quote you a precise figure we have not measured. If r/AskReddit appears in the list above, the number shown is what our own crawl recorded, with the capture date next to it. Raw size is also the least useful thing about it: a comment in a subreddit that posts thousands of times a day stays visible for minutes.
What does "most active" rank by?
Posts per day, taken from the most recent snapshot of each community, with subscriber count as the tiebreaker. It is a much better guide than subscriber count to whether a community is alive — plenty of million-member subreddits post less than a hundred-thousand-member one.
Why is fastest-growing sometimes unavailable?
Growth rankings need at least 30 days of our own snapshot history for a meaningful number of communities. Rather than compute a growth rate from two points a few days apart and present it as a monthly trend, we show you the date tracking started and ask you to come back. It is the same reason every growth figure on the site is labelled with its real day-span.
