Founded November 2009 · Public — anyone can post
For artists, writers, gamemasters, musicians, programmers, philosophers and scientists alike! The creation of new worlds and new universes has long been a key element of speculative fiction, from the fantasy works of Tolkien and Le Guin, to the science-fiction universes of Delany and Asimov, to the tabletop realm of Gygax and Barker, and beyond. This subreddit is about sharing your worlds, discovering the creations of others, and discussing the many aspects of creating new universes.

r/worldbuilding — frequently asked
How many members does r/worldbuilding have?
r/worldbuilding has 1,920,470 members as of our most recent crawl on Sep 8. Prowlo re-checks tracked communities on a rolling schedule, so this figure moves rather than sitting frozen at whatever it was when a scraper last ran.
Is r/worldbuilding growing?
We don't have 30 days of snapshot history for r/worldbuilding yet, so we're not going to invent a growth number. We've been tracking it since Aug 25; the chart fills in as history accumulates.
How active is r/worldbuilding?
We don't have a reliable posting-rate sample for r/worldbuilding yet. Subscriber count alone is a poor guide to whether a community is active, so treat this one as unverified until the next sample lands.
When was r/worldbuilding created?
r/worldbuilding was founded in November 2009 and is a public — anyone can post community. Age matters: an older community with steady growth has survived Reddit's moderation churn; a young one with a spike may not.
Can I promote my product in r/worldbuilding?
We don't have a promo-tolerance read for r/worldbuilding yet. Default to the safe approach: read the sidebar rules, contribute in threads where you gain nothing, and mention your product only when it is the honest answer to someone's question.
How do I monitor r/worldbuilding for mentions?
Hit Watch on this page. Prowlo starts crawling r/worldbuilding into your Dataset — every new post indexed and embedded, searchable semantically, queryable by your AI agent over MCP, and able to trigger keyword alerts in Slack. Prowlo is read-only; it never posts on your behalf.
Can my AI agent read r/worldbuilding's stats?
Yes. Everything on this page is one MCP tool call away: catalog_get_subreddit returns r/worldbuilding's members, growth, promo tolerance and similar communities as typed JSON — free, no credits. Connect your agent to api.prowlo.com/mcp and it can vet the community and start watching it in the same conversation.
