Posting rules, in plain words

Self-promotion is banned.

  • Lifestyle (diet, exercise, etc.) is covered in other subs and not allowed as posts in this sub: The main topics of this sub are 1) basic research on aging biology and 2) attempts at clinical translation of medical interventions targeting the biology of aging. We tried megathreads for lifestyle topics, but they were not used much. We recommend the free substacks of Drs. Eric Topol and Christin Glorioso on lifestyle.
  • No clickbait, hyberbolic, or vague headlines and articles: Articles that are mainly hype are likely to be removed. Post titles should be descriptive/informative rather than clickbait. If the source article uses a clickbait headline, you must reword it to contain the information that the article provides.
  • Citation(s) needed: If you are going to make a recommendation/claim that is not stated verbatim in the original article, or referenced in the original article/post, citations must be given. Proper care to appreciate the level of evidence should be given, in terms of the organism used, whether the effect has been replicated, and further potential considerations/criticism.
  • Post reputable sources. Limit user discussion/questions to specific science or industry questions.: Info should be from reputable websites e.g. peer reviewed studies, science writers, government bodies, interviews with researchers, etc. Unacceptable sources include books, videos, blogs written by non-experts, or AI-generated content, low-quality journals known for predatory publishing practices (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predatory_publishing). Anecdotes are not data. User discussion posts should be about a specific scientific question. Avoid asking for predictions of the future.

Quoted from the community’s own published rules. Always re-read them before posting.

What a good comment looks like here

  • — Provides direct quotes or links to the original research paper
  • — Offers critical analysis of the study's methodology or implications (e.g., false positives, statistical significance)
  • — Shares personal experiences or relates the research to practical applications (e.g., 'I tried it')
  • — Asks clarifying questions about the science or its applicability to humans
  • — Injects humor or relatable commentary
  • — Discloses relevant professional background (e.g., 'I'm a veterinarian')

r/longevity — frequently asked

How many members does r/longevity have?

r/longevity has 212,337 members as of our most recent crawl on Sep 2. Prowlo re-checks tracked communities on a rolling schedule, so this figure moves rather than sitting frozen at whatever it was when a scraper last ran.

Is r/longevity growing?

We don't have 30 days of snapshot history for r/longevity yet, so we're not going to invent a growth number. We've been tracking it since Aug 18; the chart fills in as history accumulates.

How active is r/longevity?

We don't have a reliable posting-rate sample for r/longevity yet. Subscriber count alone is a poor guide to whether a community is active, so treat this one as unverified until the next sample lands.

When was r/longevity created?

r/longevity was founded in June 2009 and is a public — anyone can post community. Age matters: an older community with steady growth has survived Reddit's moderation churn; a young one with a spike may not.

Can I promote my product in r/longevity?

r/longevity publishes 10 rules and 2 of them address promotion. The first, “No drug sourcing”, says: Not permitted on reddit. Avoid linking to unmoderated subreddits that promote drug sourcing. Read the full rule text on this page and the community's rules page before posting — moderator enforcement is the thing that actually decides.

How do I monitor r/longevity for mentions?

Hit Watch on this page. Prowlo starts crawling r/longevity into your Dataset — every new post indexed and embedded, searchable semantically, queryable by your AI agent over MCP, and able to trigger keyword alerts in Slack. Prowlo is read-only; it never posts on your behalf.

Can my AI agent read r/longevity's stats?

Yes. Everything on this page is one MCP tool call away: catalog_get_subreddit returns r/longevity's members, growth, promo tolerance and similar communities as typed JSON — free, no credits. Connect your agent to api.prowlo.com/mcp and it can vet the community and start watching it in the same conversation.
