Posting rules, in plain words

Self-promotion is judged case by case.

  • (Self-) Promotion: If you want to promote something, be it an App, Website, Tutoring Course, Helpful Tool or even a PhD-Position, send a mod mail first. Failure to do so will result in the post being removed. Sharing Scientific Papers, both your own and ones you find interesting is always allowed, but we'd ask that you give a synopsis and explain, why you feel it's relevant to this subreddit.

Quoted from the community’s own published rules. Always re-read them before posting.

What a good comment looks like here

  • — Provides direct, scientifically accurate answers or explanations.
  • — Shares relevant personal experiences or anecdotes.
  • — Offers practical safety advice.
  • — Uses humor or wit, often with chemistry-related puns.
  • — References established scientific principles or literature.
  • — Engages in constructive debate or clarification.

What r/chemistry's rules say about promotion

2 of 10 published rules mention promotion, advertising or spam. Quoted from the community's own rules page, not summarised.

  1. ChatGPT and AI Chemistry

    rule 7 of 10

No "AI Bad at Chemistry" posts. Discussion around the positive usage of artificial intelligence in the field of chemistry is permitted. However, you should be aware of the limits of specific AI models and shouldn't follow synthesis routes they present without an understanding of the underlying chemistry. Additionally, job advertising posts for training AI/LLM-Models are explicitly banned.

Removal reason shown to posters: Unsafe use of Artificial Intelligence for Chemistry

  2. (Self-) Promotion

    rule 10 of 10

If you want to promote something, be it an App, Website, Tutoring Course, Helpful Tool or even a PhD-Position, send a mod mail first. Failure to do so will result in the post being removed. Sharing Scientific Papers, both your own and ones you find interesting is always allowed, but we'd ask that you give a synopsis and explain, why you feel it's relevant to this subreddit. Posts that have been approved by moderation will have a pinned comment by a member of the mod team denoting them as such.

r/chemistry — frequently asked

How many members does r/chemistry have?

r/chemistry has 3,884,089 members as of our most recent crawl on Oct 3. Prowlo re-checks tracked communities on a rolling schedule, so this figure moves rather than sitting frozen at whatever it was when a scraper last ran.

Is r/chemistry growing?

Over the last ≈28 days r/chemistry changed by +0.1% — a gain of 4.3K members. We compare against the nearest snapshot we actually hold and state the real span rather than rounding it to a clean "30 days".

How active is r/chemistry?

We don't have a reliable posting-rate sample for r/chemistry yet. Subscriber count alone is a poor guide to whether a community is active, so treat this one as unverified until the next sample lands.

When was r/chemistry created?

r/chemistry was founded in March 2008 and is a public — anyone can post community. Age matters: an older community with steady growth has survived Reddit's moderation churn; a young one with a spike may not.

Can I promote my product in r/chemistry?

r/chemistry publishes 10 rules and 2 of them address promotion. The first, “ChatGPT and AI Chemistry”, says: No "AI Bad at Chemistry" posts. Discussion around the positive usage of artificial intelligence in the field of chemistry is permitted. However, you should be aware of the limits of specific AI models and shouldn't… Read the full rule text on this page and the community's rules page before posting — moderator enforcement is the thing that actually decides.

How do I monitor r/chemistry for mentions?

Hit Watch on this page. Prowlo starts crawling r/chemistry into your Dataset — every new post indexed and embedded, searchable semantically, queryable by your AI agent over MCP, and able to trigger keyword alerts in Slack. Prowlo is read-only; it never posts on your behalf.

Can my AI agent read r/chemistry's stats?

Yes. Everything on this page is one MCP tool call away: catalog_get_subreddit returns r/chemistry's members, growth, promo tolerance and similar communities as typed JSON — free, no credits. Connect your agent to api.prowlo.com/mcp and it can vet the community and start watching it in the same conversation.
